My apologies for not posting in a while. The weather has been so lovely, we have been spending most of our daylight hours outside. Some days cooler than others, but there is never a good excuse to stay indoors this time of year.
Quinn turned six on May 3rd. Crazy! Seems like just yesterday I was waiting for him to arrive. Just as they did in 2001, my first batch of tulips bloomed on May 3rd to greet the birthday boy. Quinn was very excited to turn six, although when we asked him what his birthday wish was, he said "To be SEVEN!". We dined at his favourite Chinese Buffet restauant with much of the family, and on the weekend, six of his friends joined us here for a Pirate party. It always amazes me how quickly the party games go, and how dumb one feels when the kids ask "What do we do now???" or "When do we eat?", but you know the chicken fingers still have 15 minutes to cook!!! ARGH!!! Still, they are just kids, and these organizational hiccups mean nothing to them. I am reminded of some of the best advice we received in the days before our wedding: "Only you will know if something goes wrong." Even on this considerably smaller scale in the world of event planning, that advice got me through the day. Boys are wild. And just think - I get to do this all over again when Jake reaches party age!
To celebrate Spring, and enjoy some family time away, we visited Montreal this past weekend. Friday we took the Metro (subway) to the BioDome, where both Quinn and Jake enjoyed watching penguins swim under water, and porcupines sleeping in trees. We swam in the hotel's rooftop pool, and walked about 5kms to Old Montreal for dinner. Saturday we ate bagels for breakfast, then visited the Botanical Gardens and Insectarium. Amazing. All part of the Nature Museums of Montreal. A worthwhile excursion for nature lovers of all ages.
